Three Days, Three Places, One Vision: CorfuGen Opens Its Doors

25–27 September 2026 | Corfu

CorfuGen: Centre for Culture, Sustainability & Innovation, the first chapter of the Genestia – Euro-Mediterranean Rural Regeneration Network, is taking its first steps in Corfu with a three-day programme of open events as part of the European Heritage Days, from 25 to 27 September 2026.

Over three days, three different spaces and landscapes across Corfu will open to the public: a traditional kafeneio in the heart of a village, an olive grove, and an ecological hub in southern Corfu. Through gatherings, guided tours and walks, participants will have the opportunity to discover different aspects of the island’s cultural, agricultural and natural heritage, as well as CorfuGen’s vision for their future.

25 September | Kamara’s Traditional Kafeneio

The series of events begins in the heart of the village of Kamaras, with an open evening at the traditional kafeneio, from 18:00 to 21:00.

Over coffee and conversation, the vision and plans for the restoration and future operation of the space as a new community cultural hub will be presented, a place for meeting, creativity, exchange of ideas and cultural activities.

26 September | Kamara’s Olive Grove

On the second day, CorfuGen moves to Kamara’s Olive Grove, one of CorfuGen’s agricultural sites.

Through a guided walk in nature, participants will have the opportunity to discover the olive grove as a living cultural heritage landscape, where the natural environment, agricultural traditions and history come together. The event will also present the vision for the future of the space as a place for ecological awareness, cultural exchange and rural regeneration.

27 September | ‘Perivoli’ Eco-Hub and KEPEA Corfu

The three-day series concludes in southern Corfu with an open day dedicated to the natural landscape and environmental heritage of the region.

The ‘Perivoli’ Eco-Hub, in collaboration with the Centre for Environmental Education and Sustainability of Corfu (KEPEA), will serve as the starting point for exploring the Korissia wetlands and the Lefkimmi salt pans through a guided tour and cultural heritage walk.

The event highlights the collaboration between CorfuGen and KEPEA Corfu, as well as the importance of protecting and showcasing one of the most significant natural landscapes of Corfu.

Three Places, One Shared Approach

Although the three spaces are different, the events share a common approach: highlighting the potential that already exists in Corfu’s rural areas and creating new connections between culture, nature, local knowledge, agricultural activity and community life.

CorfuGen seeks to create spaces where heritage is not treated as something static, but as a living resource that can support creativity, environmental awareness, community participation and new opportunities for rural areas.

From Corfu to the Wider Mediterranean

CorfuGen is the first field of implementation of the wider Genestia initiative. The experience developed in Corfu aims to provide an initial model for exploring new approaches to rural regeneration in island and rural communities across the wider Euro-Mediterranean region.

The first “hearth” is being lit in Corfu.
